Game Log 2 – Play
During our brainstorming process, we focused on the cultural theme of ceramics and explored how to combine the process of ceramic making with AR technology and multiplayer gameplay. After several rounds of discussion and refinement, we came up with the idea of an AR ceramic collaboration game that takes place on a real table. The game includes four main parts:
- Throwing: Players use hand gestures or touch controls to shape clay on a virtual wheel.
- Glazing: Players choose different colors and textures of glaze and apply them by dragging or spraying.
- Painting: Players draw patterns on the surface of the ceramic piece, inspired by traditional ceramic art.
- Firing: Players place their work into a virtual kiln and watch the final result.
The game is designed for multiplayer cooperation, with a flow similar to an assembly line. This setup helps boost interaction and rhythm.
In our conversations with experts, we received two main pieces of feedback:
- About using a timer:
Experts had different opinions. Some thought adding a timer, like in the game Overcooked, could make the game more fun and challenging by encouraging teamwork and quick thinking. However, most experts preferred removing the timer so that players could focus more on artistic creation. They believed the game should be more about expression and immersion than about competition. In the end, we decided not to use a timer, and instead designed the game to be a slow-paced and creative experience where players can fully enjoy the beauty of ceramic art.
- About connecting the game with art exhibitions:
Some experts suggested using paintings from art museums as materials in the game. For example, the colors and textures of a painting could be directly applied to the ceramic piece. Others suggested using a painting as inspiration and asking players to design a ceramic work based on its style or theme.
These suggestions encouraged us to expand the project into a platform for cultural expression through ceramics. In the game, players are not only creators, but also participants in culture.
Next, we plan to develop features that connect artworks with ceramic designs. This will help the game better support cultural sharing and art education.
